Welcome to SK!

Welcome all SK to a new school year at The Maples Academy!

I am Mrs Orphanides, the Senior Kindergarten teacher, and I am thoroughly looking forward to working with you and your children for an action packed and exciting year of learning!

About your Teacher
I am from the United Kingdom and recently moved to Canada. This is my second year teaching SK at TMA and I am also the Assistant Primary Years Programme Coordinator. The ethos of my classroom ensures that children, parents/guardians and colleagues all feel safe and secure within a welcoming environment where they are valued. Being an enthusiastic practitioner and providing fun experiences in all aspects of learning encourages children to be confident. I embolden children to take risks and explore a range of learning environments to express their ideas. It is important to support children in becoming passionate about their education and challenge their own achievements and abilities to further heighten their goals. I have high standards and expectations of all children as I truly believe that every child can succeed.
In collaboration with the JK, Gym, Art, French and Resource teachers, we strive to provide an enriching curriculum for your child. On a daily basis we will develop knowledge and skills in Mathematics, Phonics and Unit of Inquiry through the IB programme. The instruction of Physical Education will be taught by Ms. Cranfield, French will be taught by Mme. Villeneuve and Art will be taught by Mrs. Doucette.

Alternatively, you can follow the blog by email by signing up on right hand side of the blog itself: https://eorphanidesthemaples.blogspot.ca/

Agendas:
Student agendas will be sent home every day. We kindly request that you sign off on the agendas every evening. If your child is doing any additional reading or practicing math at home, please write it in the agenda, so that additional house points can be awarded to your child for their efforts.

Classroom Information:
At The Maples Academy, we encourage our students to take on the role of responsibility and independence. In the SK classroom, this begins by the students taking ownership and responsibility of their morning jobs. In the morning students will be required to bring in their own water bottles, lunch bags, and agenda bags, and place them in the correct locations within the classroom. Once students have completed their morning jobs and shown they are ready for assembly, they will be awarded house points. Students are awarded house points on a daily basis for positive actions.

Hot Lunch Program:
Please contact Lynne Burke for any questions regarding the Hot Lunch program at the school. A friendly reminder that we are also a nut-free school.

Enjoy your last days of summer and I thoroughly look forward to meeting you on September 4th!

Many thanks and kind regards,
Mrs. Ermione Orphanides
